Mystery Animals of Britain and Ireland

Including such bestial delights as
Morgawr the Sea Giant
The Things Under the Bed
An Fear Liath Mor - The Grey Man of Ben MacDhui
The Devonshire Black Dog
and the terrifyingly named
Horse-Man of County Louth.
“…a huge horse with a man’s face and horrible bulging eyes…The thing had a horse’s body. But it was the face, leering and hairy and huge which shocked. The animal stretched right across the road and completely blocked the car.”
Not as satisfying as the last entry in the odd books category but worthy none the less.
Here’s a link if you feel the need to hunt it down.

Well, my jaw dropped tonight when on the American version of The Office (which is very good, by the way) Dwight started reading the story of Struwwelpeter to the kids in the office (it was Take your Daughter to Work Day — you got that over there?). And so I immediately thought back to that night at Drogan’s, which I do quite often anyway.
If you come up with any magical plan to get me work over there, let me know ASAP. I sent off my info to see if I can get “certified” to teach in Ireland, but I’m not optimistic.

I think we have ‘Send your Daughter to work or marry her to a rich farmer day’ instead.
Actually Grogans was the name of the pub in question. It features in Flann O’Briens novel ‘At Swim Two Birds’ if you are interested in more odd (and most excellent) books.
I don’t think you need to worry too much about the certification thing Brian. Generally if you can string a sentence together and resist the urge to brain the nearest child with a lump of wood then you’ll do for teaching over here.
