Yanqui Devils
This week our little section of the Irish blogging contingent again played host to one of our American cousins. I spent two very pleasant and enlightening evenings in the company of Brian of The State I’m In, Chicago blogger and accomplished hibernophile traveler. We set the world to rights over the odd Guinness and several wee drams of Jameson. Safe home Brian.
Once again I marvel at how lucky I have been to meet such interesting, erudite, clued in and generally all round good souls via this wonder of the modern age. My only regret is that I will seldom have the opportunity to see these new friends face to face. America has seen some hard times in recent years and you guys do your country proud. You’re all welcome at my door anytime.
However if next person I meet over the internet does not try to murder me, turn out to be a connoisseur of dried monkey sex glands or at the very least curate a collection of tiny, incredibly lifelike Louis XIV porcelain dolls with dead soulless eyes and names like Charlotte and Genevieve I may be forced to get a MySpace page. I believe they attract the crazies like flies.

Thanks for the kind words, Donal, and thank you so much for showing me a few good pubs and some great conversation. Shame we can’t do it more often.

You are very welcome Brian, I’m always happy to show off my home town and good conversation is hard to come by. One day you can return the favour down Chicago way.

Now, I’m confused, sir Gurrier. Would you be wanting to meet some crazy people via the internet, or are you wailin’ about those you’ve already met?

Hi David, welcome to the site. It’s not that I wish to meet crazy people via the internet more that we are led to believe that meeting people from the net is a fast track to finding yourself being made into gumbo or boiled down for glue. Because we’re all crazy on here, making models of the Olsen twins out our toenails and stuff. However as I have pointed out all the people I have met so far have been lovely.

I was with you up ’til the bit about the Olsen Twins. My toenails are just a wee bit too thick, I imagine, to truly convey the uber-thinness you’d be looking for there.
Thanks for the welcome. I’m enjoying being a voyeur to the Flickr Fiction things, and into life outside of the US.
Cheers.
