Blue Blood
‘Look at me,’
‘No.’
‘Look at me. This is what I am.’
‘That’s not you.’
‘Yes it is.’
‘But.’
‘I’m not like other people. I’m not from around here.’
‘Yes, you’re from England.’
‘That’s right, well no, not exactly. I’m special.’
‘How?’
‘I’m different’
‘Different how?’
‘It’s hard to explain, it’s something inside, in my blood. Something you can’t see.’
‘Special, like you’re sick?’
‘No, not sick, just different to other people.’
‘Oh, like a princess!’
‘Yes, something like that. I’m from a special place, a place not everyone can see or feel and it means you are too.’
‘I’m like you?’
‘Yes.’
‘And Dad, is he special too?’
‘No my love, he is not one of us.’

I’m flinging this meagre Flickr Fiction piece up today in a desperate effort to stay abreast of my more talented co-participants. This one is a ‘The Snow Queen addresses her daughter’ affair. I think I will revert to dialogue pieces in the future when I’m getting nowhere with narrative. Other participants this week are Tadmack, Aquafortis, and Valsha. This weeks photo is The Blue Nile by Flickr user hanna.bi

Actually, that works out really well for me, using dialogue when narrative slips from my grasp. This snippet works quite provocatively, as it leaves open a lot of questions and answers none!

Crikey. I liked that - I liked the utter reasonableness of the ‘B’ voice (especially the ‘Yes, you’re from England’ response). Not sure quite what to make of the ‘A’ voice, wasn’t sure if I was to think her crazy or knowlegeable - which was probably the point! ^_^

Veeery interesting. I’d like to see where this conversation goes. “Special, like you’re sick” cracked me up.
